Happy New Year 2016

beach

We had a wonderful New Year’s Eve celebration.  A family from school was on holiday in the same beach town as us.  Together we all had a fun evening celebrating the end of 2015 and looking forward to a new and exciting 2016.

We were invited over for a BBQ, swim and the beach and to watch the fireworks.  At school this year my eldest son will be in the same class as the eldest boy in the other family.  Similarly, the two youngest boys will also be in the same class.  What a happy coincidence.  Each of the boys the same age are really good friends, and it was just delightful to watch them playing together.  It brings me so much joy to see my sons have a wonderful time with their peers, especially outside the school environment.  This epitomises inclusion.

It was a really hot New Years Eve; so we also had water fights, including the adults.  I loved hearing the squeals of delight and surprise.

Then it was time for a swim at the beach.  Initially my youngest was a bit reluctant to go in, but his friend encouraged him.  A little while later they were playing games as each wave approached.  They were just having fun, enjoying each other’s company and playing.  The two eldest boys went out quite a distance, and were deep in conversation for most of the time.  It was likely they were talking about the latest iPad app craze.  It really didn’t matter what they were talking about, it was so apparent that they were conversing and interested in what the other was saying.  Hopefully there were some plans about what they would be doing together in the new year.

This was followed by good food, a little more champagne and the time for fireworks was fast approaching.  My husband and I even got to sit and relax a bit because we knew our boys were completely comfortable, even though they had never been to this place before.  A wonderful Aussie way to spend New Year’s Eve at the beach, with good friends and good food.
